About our organisation

FreeBIX is a non-profit Internet Exchange Point (IXP) created and operating since 2003. We support Internet Service Providers and consumers in need, working with partners to help improve the online Internet experience by providing a fast and stable platform where they can collaborate and exchange IP traffic.

With the Internet bandwidth growing faster every day, it becomes more important to keep bandwidth expenses healthy and stable. Here at FreeBIX, members are able to connect up with each other and enjoy the full benefits of peering. Every member at FreeBIX is in the position to peer with any or all other connected ISP's.

We turn our member network into a knowledge platform for our members and their peers. It's all managed with the utmost care for our members' high-technical demands. FreeBIX is a 24/7-maintained and supported platform, with a member-area with specific tools and reporting.

Despite being a non-profit organisation which offers a free service, FreeBIX also offers a business platform with a tight SLA, agreement, 24/7 NOC service, monitoring & alerting and high-level support through a paid service. FreeBIX is a platform where both large and small organisations, Internet Service Providers and community projects can build their business on.

Membership fee

The membership fee is a fixed annual charge for all members to cover our administrative costs and is currently set to a fixed amount of €100. To join FreeBIX you will need to pay the annual membership fee which is due on January 1 each year. There will be no membership fees in 2009 for the members who joined before July 1 2009. Initial membership fees for members joining after January 1 will be pro-rata the months left in that year.

The Executive Board

The Executive Board is a body of elected members who jointly oversee the activities of the FreeBIX organisation. The board members guide the overall philosophy and direction of the organisation.

By sharing the common goal of providing a professional platform to Internet Service Providers and making the end-user online experience better by reducing bandwidth costs; the board brings a broad vision and expertise to this important mission.

The elected board members are equipped with many talents and jointly provide the full perspective of a stable organisation going from marketing to management, technical expertise, business insight, funding and innovative technologies.
