Your network is a critical part of your business and has a deep and lasting impact on your company reputation. With FreebIX you have the ability to manage your bandwidth costs on a scalable and performance driven platform.

Allowed traffic

FreeBIX allows the exchange of IPv4 and IPv6 traffic on the same VLAN. Multicast peering is not yet supported. Furthermore there are some restrictions to what kind of traffic is allowed over the Internet Exchange platform.

Members shall not

  • Sell transit over the FreeBIX infrastructure
  • Rewrite next-hop IP addresses
  • Use ICMP redirects
  • Use protocols other than IP and BGPv4
  • Use FreeBIX for IGP (iBGP) purposes


Absolutely forbidden are

  • Discovery protocols such as CDP
  • Failover protocols such as VRRP and HSRP
  • VTP, STP packets
  • BootP/DHCP
