Port security

Network outages caused by loops or broadcast storms are the nightmare of any Ethernet based network or Internet Exchange. To mitigate this, FreeBIX does not allow port sharing between members, all our ports are configured with port security and will allow only one MAC address.

Once a member is connected to the production FreeBIX network, the MAC address of his router will be bound to his FreeBIX port and no other MAC address will be allowed. Incase traffic from another MAC address is received, the port will be automatically shut down and manual intervention by FreeBIX staff will be necessary to unlock the port again.
